What is JEE Mains?

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) comprises of two papers.

  • The Paper1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B. Tech) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments, as well as an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs
  • Paper 2 (B.Arch. / B. Planning) is organized through offline (Pen and Paper based examination) mode only.
WHAT IS JEE ADVANCED?

JEE Advanced is a national level entrance examination scheduled by IITs across the country. The successful applicants of JEE Main examination are only eligible to write JEE Advanced examination. JEE Advanced is a gateway to admissions in engineering or architecture programs in the top institutes of India such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs etc.

IMPORTANCE OF CRACKING JEE
  • Joint Entrance Examination is regarded as one of the most competitive examinations in India.
  • On the other hand, it is the gateway to some most premium institutions such as IITs, NITs and other top engineering colleges in India
  • It is quite apparent that the difficulty level of this exam will be higher than several other entrance tests.
JEE MAIN ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR DROPPERS

There are JEE Main droppers students are of two categories-

  • Candidates who appeared for the JEE Main previous year but unfortunately could not bagged a seat , they will take attempt for this year JEE exam
  • Students who qualified 10+2 previous year, took a year gap to prepare for JEE Main and will be appearing for it this year.
NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS
  • Aspirants can have a maximum of 3 consecutive attempts to clear the JEE Main. In the case of year droppers who have appeared once in the entrance and couldn’t qualify, they can sit twice more for it. However, they must make sure that their attempts are 3 consecutive times, a part from that they can’t appear in the exam.
  • This exam takes place twice a year, over 2 sessions – January and April, the admission process over one specific academic session is treated as a single attempt.

5 TYPE OF QUESTIONS • 20 OBJECTIVE QUESTIONS HAVING 4 OPTIONS EACH WITH ONLY 1 CORRECT OPTION
• 10 NUMERICAL QUESTIONS OUT OF WHICH 5 NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED
6 MARKING SCHEME • FOR MCQS - 4 MARKS WILL BE AWARDED FOR EVERY CORRECT ANSWER AND 1 MARK WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR EVERY INCORRECT ANSWER
• FOR ANSWER WITH A NUMERIC VALUE - 4 MARKS WILL BE AWARDED FOR EVERY CORRECT ANSWER AND 0 MARK WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR EVERY INCORRECT ANSWER
7 MEDIUM OF PAPER ENGLISH, HINDI, ASSAMESE, BENGALI, GUJARATI, KANNADA, MARATHI, MALAYALAM, ODIA, PUNJABI, TAMIL, TELUGU, AND URDU.
# ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA SPECIFICATION
1 Candidate’s age The upper age limit for JEE Main is not particularize. However, the lower limit of this entrance is that candidates must be old enough to have passed 10+2 or equivalent exams.
2 Qualifying exam for JEE Main The applicants must have passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination on appearing for this entrance. Students who are appearing for their 10+2 exams may also apply for this test
3 Mandatory subjects The entrance exam help student to bagged seat into B. Tech/B.E or B. Arch courses, there are a few compulsory subjects that each candidate needs to have in their 10+2 exams.
For B.Tech/B.E: Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry
For B. Arch & B.Plan: PCM is mandatory
4 Qualifying exam score for General category Minimum 75% in aggregate or be in the top 20 percentile in their 10+2 examination.
5 SC/ST/PWD category Minimum 65% in aggregate

CUT OFF MARKS-

The JEE Main Cut off declare shortly after the completion of JEE Mains but after the assessment year of 2019 NTA ( National Testing Agency) was whole and sole responsible for declaring the cut off marks and AIRs. Now Candidates get their result from NTA’s result portal site

There two types of Cut- off marks for JEE main exam –

1. Cut off for admission.

2. Cut off for qualification.

  • The cut – off for admission is basically applicable for those candidate who want to take admission in private colleges.
  • The cut – off for qualification is basically applicable for those candidate who qualify for JEE – Mains and eligible to appear in JEE advanced exam.
